Pre Design
Develop Understanding of the Site: Obtain Property Survey with detailed information regarding physical boundaries, location of all built and natural conditions, known concealed utilities, topography and zoning regulations
Develop a Program based on an Understanding of Client’s Project Goals and Priorities, Values, Background, Family Structure and Life Routines
Identify a Strategy for Project Delivery including the Sequence and Schedule for Engaging with Client throughout Project Development
Assist the Client in Assembling a Project Team of Collaborators and Consultants, as well as the General Contractor
Confirm the Client’s Detailed Program for the Building and Site, their Budget, and their Sustainability Goals for the Project. Should the Client be interested in Passive House or LEED Certification, those services may be provided.
As a Supplemental Service, Consult on Site Selection and Property Acquisition, as well as preparation of Feasibility Studies for Determining Appropriateness of Developing Specific Sites
Design
Prepare a Preliminary Masterplan based on Site Information and Analysis as well as the Client’s Program.
Prepare a Schematic Design Approach which may include 3D Renderings and Models to illustrate Initial Architectural Concepts and further development of the Master Plan.
Develop Specifications for Exterior and Interior Materials, Finishes, Building Components and Systems that support further Development of the Design.
Meet frequently with the Client to collaborate and for feedback.
Coordinate the Design Services of other project Team Members and Consultants to further collaborate and develop the design details and drawings.
Assist the Client in Acquiring Initial Cost Estimates or Bids from potential General Contractors or Cost Estimator.
As a Supplemental Service, provide Interior Design Services: Furnishings, Floor Coverings and Decor.
Construction Documents
Prepare detailed Construction Documents and Specifications to submit to Governing Agencies for Approval and Permits, as well as for use by the General Contractor in Establishing the Cost of Work for the Contract for Construction.
Construction Administration
Provide Construction Administration Services with Site Visits throughout Construction, keeping the Client informed of Progress and providing as-needed information requested by the General Contractor.
Review shop drawing submissions and General Contractor’s Applications for Payment
Prepare Punchlist and Project Closeout at Completion of Construction
Profile
Amanda Martocchio
Amanda established AMA in New Canaan, Connecticut, in 2004, inspired by the local legacy of mid-century modern design. In 2023, Amanda received the AIA Connecticut Women in Architecture Award, which honors a female architect who demonstrates design excellence, promotes equitable practice, and creates positive change in the architectural profession. AMA’s work has been frequently honored and published, earning multiple design awards, including LEED certification and the 2011 Connecticut Emerging Architectural Firm Award.
Amanda received her Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University, and upon graduating served as a teaching assistant at the Syracuse University Program in Florence, Italy, and worked at the Florence-based Superstudio. She continued her early career in New York City after receiving her Master of Architecture from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, focusing on large-scale cultural and commercial buildings at HLW and Polshek Partnership (now Ennead). Amanda is a licensed architect in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island and is a LEED- certified professional of USGBC.
In addition to her professional practice, Amanda has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Hartford's undergraduate architecture program. She is dedicated to civic engagement within her community and has contributed as an architectural advisor on local building projects, including the New Canaan Library building and the Saint Luke’s School expansion. For the residents of a remote Nicaraguan village, Amanda collaborated with a US Healthcare NGO to design and implement a “Puesto de Salud” to make maternal healthcare services available to the community.
Brian Foster
Brian Foster is a Licensed Architect and is currently working on a number of residential and commercial projects at AMA. Brian has over 15 years of experience with private and public sector projects across the United States and abroad. His design and management includes commercial, high-end residential, high rise towers, and mixed-use projects. Prior to joining AMA, Brian worked in New York City at REX and Bjarke Ingels Group where he designed and managed a number of award winning projects.
Brian has a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan, and has taught or been a guest juror at a number of universities. His personal and professional work has been included in the Venice Biennale and the Museum of Modern Art, amongst others. Brian is an avid skier and enjoys spending time with his family in Fairfield County.
Loren Yu
Loren is a licensed architect with over a decade of architectural experience throughout the US and overseas. Prior to joining AMA, Loren was a Senior Associate Principal at Kohn Pedersen Fox in New York City, where he led the design of sustainability driven and award-winning office and residential high-rise, interiors, mixed-use, and masterplan projects. He developed his passion for smaller residential projects while working in the Philadelphia offices of Kieran Timberlake and Qb.
Loren received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania, which included studies at the Architectural Association in London and his Master of Architecture from Princeton University, where he was awarded the Kohn Pedersen Fox Fellowship. He has served on guest juries at multiple universities and his work has been exhibited at the Storefront for Art and Architecture and at the Lisbon Triennale, amongst others. In his spare time, he enjoys running and taking on improvement projects on his 100-year-old house in Westchester County.
Leander Krueger
Leander is a licensed architect with experience in both the United States and the United Kingdom. After receiving her BA from Yale University and her M.Arch from the University of Pennsylvania, Leander worked for five years at Selldorf Architects in Manhattan.At Selldorf she acted as Project Architect for apartment and townhouse renovations, art gallery additions and retail projects. Leander gained further design and construction experience in London where she worked as a Senior Architect for Space Agency Architecture.At Space Agency, Leander managed diverse residential projects ranging from the renovation of a Victorian townhouse to the design of a pre-fab penthouse addition.Leander’s experience ranges from concept design through to construction administration. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her family and volunteering as an elected member of the Greenwich RTM and on its Land Use Committee.
Carol Cristini
Carol handles all of AMA’s bookkeeping and financial record keeping. She manages client invoicing and vendor payments for all residential and commercial projects.
She earned a BA in Business Education from Sacred Heart University and began her career teaching business classes. She later joined her family’s business, helping grow it to a thriving construction management practice. Presently, in addition to her work with AMA, she provides a local non-profit with bookkeeping services.
Carol raised her family in Fairfield County and spends time with her four grandchildren, attending their various activities.
